Do to a series of unfortunate events; the launches in July were canceled. So when the August 18th launch came, the fact that a launch in Acton means no high power did not bother me. I wanted just to fly something. Despite the fact that it was very windy, that did not stop me from launching fifteen rockets.
The first rocket I launched was my Micro Maxx Jayhawk which I chose to fly with a first generation Micro Maxx motor. That was a great flight, and landed close to where I was standing so I did not loose the little rocket in the grass. Then I tried to loose my Estes Mach 12 with a C6-5 but was not successful. My Estes Bull-Pup participated in a drag race, using the higher thrust B6-4 to quickly push pass the competitors B4-4. My pup landed safely in the grass, but the other Pup landed in the power lines. Then I loss sight of where my Fliskits Whatchamacallit landed when it took off with a 1/2A3-4T. My EZ2C flew again with two B6-4’s.
I remember a while back in Sport Rocketry magazine, there was a company that offered square body rockets that were made from laser cut and etched basswood. I aquired one of them already built. I decided to fly it with an A8-3. It put in a good flight. I was surprised that that M80 ejection charge did not blow the rocket into pieces. My Astrocam loaded with a B6-4 got a nice shot of the sky when the motor hook got caught on the stand off. I replaced the B6-4 and the second try worked great.
It has been a while since I flown a C11, so I decided to fly my modified Cluster Bomb with a C11-3. My Semroc Astro-1 put up a great flight with an A8-3. I lost my Fliskits Thingamagig which got lost in a tree after a flight with a B6-4. I then flew my Estes Guardian with a C6-5, unfortunately it too landed in a tree. What a bummer. I liked that rocket.
After getting my fill of Black Powder, it was time to breath in the sweet smell of AP. First I launched my PML Bull Puppy with an E18-4W. The E18 and the Bull Puppy are a great combination. As usual, that awesome flight is followed by some clapping and cheers. They were not suspecting a loud motor to be used. Then I flew my “Hotel Express” with a F24-4W. even though they are similar to the E18, I don’t think they are as loud. When I flew everything I had loaded, there was time for one more flight. I made my last flight my Estes X-15 with a C6-5. Perfect flight to end the day.
