- ![]() This is the Algoma Central's Agawa Canyon tour train with an ex Green Bay and Western caboose in the consist. (AC is now owned by Canadian National) - ![]() Ready to leave Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. Today is Wednesday, June 13th, 2007. - ![]() The line crosses a large dam on the Montreal River. This is looking at the lake upstream. - ![]() And looking downstream at the power plant and the river itself. - ![]() The railroad crosses high above the dam on a curved steel bridge. - ![]() After a wonderful breakfast in the dining car, 4 hours after leaving Sault Ste. Marie (the Soo) we arrive at our destination - Agawa Canyon. - ![]() And here the caboose (also called a "Camp Car") is being spotted on the house track. - ![]() Anyone want to guess how much I paid for this little switching move? - ![]() The tour train conductor guards the trail crossing as the power crosses. - ![]() "It's okay to cross now", she says, as the train is now clear of the crossing. - ![]() At last our caboose is parked where it will sit for the next 6 days. - ![]() The tour train has left. We are the only ones here (except for 2 section hands -- also called "rangers".) - ![]() An hour later, the northbound regular passenger train, #631 passes by us, late as normal. Northbounds run on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Did you know CN runs passenger trains? - ![]() You can expect doors to be left open on CN trains. About half the time that's how they are. - ![]() That evening. the sunset lights the east canyon wall with a nice red glow. Notice the raptor in the tree. - ![]() Around 3:00 the next morning, the daily southbound freight with about 40 cars rolls through. Sorry - no photos. Too dark. - ![]() Next day, Thursday, June 14th, around noon, the last tour train of the week arrives. Earlier this morning around 10:00 the daily northbound freight ran through, but I wasn't ready for it. - ![]() As I said, get used to doors left open. - ![]() The locomotives on the tour trains run around to the south end of the train for the return trip. - ![]() About 2 hours later, train #632, the regular southbound passenger train rolls through. Southbounds run on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. - ![]() Here's the southbound -- going South. - ![]() Next day, Friday, June 15th. Here's northbound #631 - with the door open. - ![]() What's this? An old F7? Converted into what? A kitchen. Talk about a cabbage car. Here's where they cook the cabbage. The side says "Tracks of the Black Bear". - ![]() Saturday, June 16th, the daily southbound freight is late - it's about 8:30. - ![]() And at about 2:30 that afternoon, train #632 roars through. - ![]() Let's have another look at that F7. - ![]() Sunday, June 17th at around 7:30. What a beautiful day.
