This is the Algoma Central's Agawa Canyon tour train with an ex Green Bay and Western caboose in the consist. (AC is now owned by Canadian National)
-

Ready to leave Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. Today is Wednesday, June 13th, 2007.
-

The line crosses a large dam on the Montreal River. This is looking at the lake upstream.
-

And looking downstream at the power plant and the river itself.
-

The railroad crosses high above the dam on a curved steel bridge.
-

After a wonderful breakfast in the dining car, 4 hours after leaving Sault Ste. Marie (the Soo) we arrive at our destination - Agawa Canyon.
-

And here the caboose (also called a "Camp Car") is being spotted on the house track.
-

Anyone want to guess how much I paid for this little switching move?
-

The tour train conductor guards the trail crossing as the power crosses.
-

"It's okay to cross now", she says, as the train is now clear of the crossing.
-

At last our caboose is parked where it will sit for the next 6 days.
-

The tour train has left. We are the only ones here (except for 2 section hands -- also called "rangers".)
-

An hour later, the northbound regular passenger train, #631 passes by us, late as normal. Northbounds run on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Did you know CN runs passenger trains?
-

You can expect doors to be left open on CN trains. About half the time that's how they are.
-

That evening. the sunset lights the east canyon wall with a nice red glow. Notice the raptor in the tree.
-

Around 3:00 the next morning, the daily southbound freight with about 40 cars rolls through. Sorry - no photos. Too dark.
-

Next day, Thursday, June 14th, around noon, the last tour train of the week arrives. Earlier this morning around 10:00 the daily northbound freight ran through, but I wasn't ready for it.
-

As I said, get used to doors left open.
-

The locomotives on the tour trains run around to the south end of the train for the return trip.
-

About 2 hours later, train #632, the regular southbound passenger train rolls through. Southbounds run on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
-

Here's the southbound -- going South.
-

Next day, Friday, June 15th. Here's northbound #631 - with the door open.
-

What's this? An old F7? Converted into what? A kitchen. Talk about a cabbage car. Here's where they cook the cabbage. The side says "Tracks of the Black Bear".
-

Saturday, June 16th, the daily southbound freight is late - it's about 8:30.
-

And at about 2:30 that afternoon, train #632 roars through.
-

Let's have another look at that F7.
-

Sunday, June 17th at around 7:30. What a beautiful day. A fog is adding a touch of mystery to the canyon.
-

This could easily be a painting -- except it's the real thing.
-

And here's our caboose in the foggy canyon - our home for 6 days.
-

Here's northbound #631.
-

And a "Cover One" photo. - maybe.
-

After the storm of early Monday morning, June 18th.
All of the waterfalls are running at flank speed.

-

It's Monday's northbound freight -- with the door open.
-

Lots of lumber cars.
-

And southbound #632. It will stop here at Canyon -- to take us home.
-

It's time to go home, but we have to leave the caboose here.
