Line Closed -- January 25th, 2004
At least as a through road. It can still be run as a
point-to-point operation. Last through train ran on
Saturday, January 24th. Crews had to chop away ice. Then
they chopped into the main water channel, causing a major
flood.
-
Water running over the track has frozen solid.
-
The train wants to cross, but there is no hope today.
-
This part of the line is accessable by rail only, as it is
too dangerous and difficult to walk on the ice.
-
What was thought to be trouble two days ago, now doesn't look
so bad. This section was easily opened with a propane torch.
-
The Timson creek bridge is now at risk of being swept away
by the slow flowing ice. How many folks do you know that
have their own private glacier?
-
It is still stable and passible and shows no signs of movement,
but there are tons of ice on the uphill side.
-
The situation deserves to be monitored, but there isn't much
anyone can do. As Snow Plow Bob says, "Usually you can't win
against nature. The best you can do is try to outsmart it."
