-

The Sumpter Valley Railroad is in the Powder River Valley of Oregon. It is also in the Powder River. (literally)

To see my Movie of this train ride Go Here.

-

It operates in high and cold country in what used to be gold
dredging operations.

-

This is a westbound, running around it's consist near Sumpter, Oregon.

-

Welcome to McEwen station where the tour begins.

-

Waiting for the eastbound.
McEwen is both railroad station and museum.

-

Here we have bits and pieces of old railroad equipment.

-

An Ice Reefer presumably from Sumpter Valley.
Several 3 foot narrow gauge railroads swapped equipment
to give each other some diversity in rolling stock.

-

A flat car from White Pass & Yukon in Skagway, Alaska.

-

Hopper cars from East Broad Top, Pennsylvania.

-

I got to ride in the cab. Let's be more specific. You pay to ride in the cab.

-

My wife insisted on some photos of me in the cab.

-

She told everyone I was running the locomotive. I can assure you THAT was not so.

-

Time for a series of detailed cab shots.

-

A very nicely maintained Sumpter, Oregon train station.

-

This is an original coach - riding on boxcar trucks.

-

Wife, Donna seems to like the ride.

-

Some of the guides are a little scruffy.
This one looks like he should be riding under the coach.

-

Intently listening to the scruffy tour guide amidst dredge tailings.

-

Horses? No. Bad Guys. -- Bad guys with guns.
We were told they were rehearsing for an upcoming holdup.

-

The horses didn't mind the pistols. They did NOT like the whistle.

-

A good view of the 36" gauge track behind us.

-

Dredge tailings left over from the gold fever days.
