Robert DeHate launches his M Motor Eater with an AMW K950 ST. |
Looking at the weather report the night before the last launch of the year, I decided that I was not going to fly any High Power rockets. It looked like it was going be very cold and windy, and I didn’t feel like prepping them the night before, and finding out at the launch that the weather was to bad to launch them. So instead, I took a couple hours that night and prepped several low power rockets.
Saturday morning I was actually able to get to Amesbury early to get my stuff set up and to participate in the setup of the range. Greg from the Nashua Hobbytown USA was there, and I shared my booth with him so he could sell some Estes motors and several Aerotech motors.
Jim said on the rocketry forum, “All the real die-hard nuts, er I mean rocketeers showed up early and sat on their hands, each looking to the other "you gonna fly first?", "nope, you?"... LOL.” He was right on the money. People were reluctant to launch. I finally stepped up to the pad, and after a moment of figuring out why the launcher had no power, I took the honors of the first flight and made fourteen more throughout the day.
My main flight of the day was my brand new Aerotech Sumo, which I flew with a brand new RMS 29/40-120 motor, loaded with a fresh from Aerotech G71-4R motor. The Sumo was so new, it did not have any paint on it yet. Aerotech just sent me all of this because my first Sumo and its motor got damaged when the first G71 I tried catoed. There were other cool flights during the day, By far the coolest flight of the day was Robert DeHates M-Motor-Eater which launched on a K950ST. Another cool flight was Mike from Cosmodrome who launched his Nike Smoke with a G35 Econojet motor. I miss those motors.
