Now the new spur has rail and is nicely ballasted.
I still need to do some leveling and tamping.

Image 13: Double Track?
-
Another first for me - Double Track (well almost). The ballast for the new spur came from a different quarry as the original. And it's much darker - sort of a charcoal color. It is also devoid of mica which was abundant in the original mix.

This is my first straight bridge. Matter of fact, this section will be the third longest tangent on my entire line.

At the recommendation of Bruce Mowbray (Steamtown U.S.A.), I have armoured BOTH sides of the chasm with stone and cement. Now I am going to have to call this "Mowbray Gulch" or something similar.

The light spot in the foreground is my driveway although you could never tell in this photo. It's where the spur ends.

Note: On straight track I only spike the rails every third tie.

Here you can see the new stone and cement wall on the southern face of the chasm. Also notice the work train is delivering materials. It is nice having rails in place. -- Bill
