PSCC Steel Boxcar
Rock Island 21958

Boxcar IPRR #301 is now Rock Island 21958, painted in their "100 year" Anniversary paint scheme. Did they ever guess that in only 30 more years they would be history?

Once again we are working with cut vinyl graphics. The vinyl which is on a backing paper is cut on a plotter and the unwanted pieces are weeded away. What's left was covered with an adhesive cover sheet.

The cover sheet pulls the image off of the backing paper. The image is then transferred to the side of the boxcar with the help of a colored pencil.

-

An "HO" scale model of the prototype boxcar is used as a guide only. The actual artwork was generated from an old black and white photo of the subject.

-

Here, Doug is applying the build date stencil. You can see the black and white prototype photo being used for guidance.

-

Next he applies the capacity, load limit, and light weight stencils.

-

We are done. Time to put the boxcar on the rails for some publicity photos.

-

And what a nice car it is.

-

For comparison, here is a colorized copy of the original prototype photo. Did you notice that we used one road number lower? We have no idea what that car looked like or what it's disposition was.
