Baskin Cutoff Opens

The Baskin cutoff is a short segment of track that links the north side of the oval with the south side,
facing opposite directions. In this manner, the track can be used to reverse the direction of trains.

This switch (orange) is lined for the Baskin cutoff.

A 25 foot straight section is followed by this short bend and followed by another 50 feet of straight track.

Another 25 feet of curved track, and the cutoff rejoins the main line.

Another switch (yellow) connects the main line on the south side.
There are no two switches of the same color anywhere on the line.

Let's hop on a local freight, which is about to back through the yellow switch and onto the cutoff.

The switch is open. We begin entering the cutoff on the south side.

And now we are back on the main line. The train has reversed direction.

Coming around the loop on the west end. Now we can head through the cutoff instead of reversing through it.
