Inside the Jersey Lily - an old Jim Crow coach. We are in the black-only section.
M. L. Peterson and wife Fern - pastors of the Tempe Wesleyan Church.

-

Testing the blowdown valves. The engineer is just letting off steam.
-

Leaving Pinetop Lakes station. The engineer has one hand on the whistle cord.
The other hand is pointing at us. Don't ask why. I do not know.
-

Heading North.
-

The track takes us completely around Porter Mountain.
-

Looking back at the consist.
-

An "S" bend and maybe Pat Mullen mountain dead ahead.
-

Under the canopy of the Jersey Lily.
-

A long sweeping turn, and it looks like Morgan Mountain ahead.
-

Possibly Sponseller mountain on the right, ahead.
-

Almost dead ahead is Mesa Redondo, Black Mesa, and to the left,
Taylor and Snowflake. Though quite distant, these are visible on a clear day.
-

Here we are at Bell, Arizona. The locomotive is refueled by a truck
from a local fuel oil dealer and watered from a nearby tank. Then the
engine runs around on the passing track to couple to the other end of
the train. We are a few feet north of US highway 60.
-

The lead car on the trip to Bell becomes the last car for the ride home.
This is the view from the open platform of the Jersey Lily.
-

I went back to Bell shortly after the White Mountain Scenic Railroad moved away. The passing track is used to house cars dropped off to supply the operation on the freight business. Here ties and other things are dropped off for the crews.

Check out my Return to Bell page.
